Mesa sets new lap record at Daytona

Pirelli and Stefano Mesa Set New Motorcycle Track Record at Daytona International Speedway  [Daytona Beach, FL 22/10/2023] — In an exhilarating display of skill, determination, and sheer speed, Stefano Mesa, a seasoned motorcycle racing sensation, etched his name in the annals of racing history by breaking the motorcycle lap record during Round 19 of the ASRA (American Superbike Racing Association) Championship, held at the iconic Daytona International Speedway, The world center of racing. This remarkable feat was accomplished on Lap 3 of the Unlimited Superbike race, leaving spectators and fellow competitors in awe. With the New Lap Record of 1:44.046 Mesa Goes a Full Second and a Half Quicker Aboard his BMW M 1000 RR, Equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike Slick Tires ATLANTA (October 24, 2023) – Pirelli congratulates Stefano Mesa on setting the new absolute motorcycle track record at Daytona International Speedway during last weekend’s American Superbike Racing Association (ASRA) and Championship Cup Series (CCS) event. Mesa’s incredible performance saw him topple the previous track record by 1.5 seconds aboard his Tytlers Racing BMW M 1000 RR machine, equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slick tires.  “What a weekend at Daytona,” said Mesa. “I did not expect to do what we did this weekend by lowering the lap time a full second and a half. Pirelli has done its homework when it comes to racing at the legendary speedway, and that has shown with its success over the past several years here. The level of comfort that I had this weekend was something I had not felt in quite some time. Thank you, Pirelli!” The new lap record of 1:44.046 easily surpassed the previous best time of 1:45.538 and relied on the performance of Pirelli’s DIABLO Superbike 120/70 R17 SC2 front and 200/65 R17 development “Daytona spec” rear tires.  Shane Narbonne(64). Everyone at Pirelli has worked incredibly hard to find the perfect setup, and that really showed today. We can’t wait to carry this momentum into the Daytona 200.” The weekend served as an early test and preparation for the iconic 2024 Daytona 200, with Mesa and fellow Pirelli rider Shane Narbonne also setting the fastest 600cc times of the weekend with a 1:49.227 and 1:49.282, respectively.  DIABLO™ is a registered trademark of Pirelli Tyre S.p.A

Stefano Mesa and Andrew Lee Double Down to Set New Motorcycle Track Records with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike Slicks

125/70-17 SC2 and 200/65-17 SCX Slicks Continue to Impress with Mesa at Nelson Ledges Road Course and Lee at High Plains Raceway ROME, Ga. (September 4, 2020) – The Pirelli DIABLO™ Superbike range continues to impress in the new, larger World Superbike derived sizing as Stefano Mesa and Andrew Lee captured the brand’s fourth and fifth absolute motorcycle track record bounties of 2020. Mesa, who led the way with the most track records in 2019, set a new record lap at Nelson Ledges Road Course during the WERA National Challenge series in Ohio. Lee’s motorcycle track record came at High Plains Raceway in Colorado during the Motorcycle Roadracing Association (MRA) series. Both riders’ impressive feats came while competing on Pirelli-equipped Kawasaki NINJA® ZX™ – 10R motorcycles “We managed to lower the track record by almost a full second,” said Mesa. “On the last race, we tried something new with the grippers from Pirelli and put on the new SCX superpole tire provided by Metric Devil Moto. The tire was unreal and the grip it provided in the first three laps felt like a qualifier tire with the longevity of an SC0 for a sprint race. This tire is something special!” Mesa’s lap record of 1:04.192 was set during the Open A/Superbike race, topping Taylor Knapp’s track record of 1:05.173. Mesa’s ZX™-10R motorcycle was equipped with Pirelli’s DIABLO™ Superbike 125/70-17 SC2 front and 200/65-17 SCX rear slicks.“It was great to get redemption and a track record on Pirelli’s new 200/65 SCX after being denied earlier this season due to weather at Summit Point,” said Mike Faillace, Metric Devil Moto, Pirelli trackside vendor. “It was satisfying to see both Mesa and Vasiliy Zhulin well under the existing lap record in the A Superstock race. We had already posted some very fast times on the SC0 rear in the sprints earlier in the day and I was confident we could push the pace even faster with the SCX. The data we get from weekends like this help us stay on top of our game. Mesa’s 1:04.192 is very impressive around the fast and flowing Nelson Ledges circuit where side and drive grip are critical to lap times. I’m very proud to have been part of another lap record effort with Stefano.”Utilizing High Plains Raceway’s “west configuration”, Lee set a fast lap of 1:21.518 in the Open Superbike class to overthrow the previous best lap time of 1:22.698. Lee relied on the same tire options as Mesa with a 125/70-17 SC2 front and 200/65-17 SCX rear. “It was awesome coming to Colorado with Kory and the Moto Station team again,” said Lee. “I had to learn a new track pretty quickly due to the weather but moving into Saturday I was pretty confident. We never even touched the suspension all weekend. We installed a fresh set of Pirelli’s and that’s all I needed. I have so much trust that the bike will do what I need with the new World Superbike slick, which helped me lower the record!” “It’s great when we get to work with a rider as talented as Andrew,” said Kory Cowan, Moto Station, Pirelli trackside vendor. “His ability to ride at the limit every time he’s on the track and provide good feedback on the tires helps us better understand how they work in different track conditions. That’s information that we can use with other riders to help them achieve their personal best, which makes it a win for everyone.” Pirelli continues to offer a tire credit prize for setting a new motorcycle track record and four different riders have managed to capture a track record so far this season. Pirelli Storms to Third Consecutive Daytona 200 Victory

Brandon Paasch, Cam Peterson, and Sheridan Morais Make it an all Pirelli Podium Sweep using DIABLO™ Superbike Slicks DAYTONA, Fla. (March 12, 2022) – Pirelli Tire North America stormed to victory and a one, two, three finish at the 80th running of the Daytona 200. The victory marked the second consecutive at Daytona for TOBC Racing rider Brandon Paasch who relied on the performance of the DIABLO™ Superbike range in each of his successes. Attack Performance Yamaha rider Cam Peterson came up 0.007 short to finish second, followed by fellow South African Sheridan Morais in third aboard his Syntainics / Penz13 racing machine, making it an all Pirelli podium sweep for the first time in the event’s history.Podium 1Pirelli riders stormed to victory and a one, two, three finish. | Photo: Brian J. Nelson “Man, what a race,” said Paasch. “I kind of hung back early to let everyone settle in before making my moves and we got going just in time. That was a close finish and the slingshot worked out perfectly. My team decided to not change tires on our last pit stop, which definitely was a gamble, but it showed how much traction was left in my Pirelli’s as we came to the final stretch. A huge thank you to Pirelli for their efforts that have played a big part in my Daytona 200 victories!” The 57-lap shootout proved to be an all-out battle as riders exchanged passes for the podium positions lap-after-lap. Paasch used patience for the majority of the race, running just inside the top-five with his sights locked in on the front-runners. As riders began to make their final pit stops, Paasch found himself out front before making a pit stop of his own, allowing Peterson to inherit the lead with 12-laps remaining. Paasch and the TOBC Racing team elected to pit for fuel only after seeing how well the DIABLO™ Superbike slicks continued to hold up. He would return to the track in second but was quickly shuffled to fourth, as he got back up to speed.Podium 2For the second consecutive year, Paasch collected the victory and Rolex watch. | Photo: Brian J. Nelson “My team absolutely crushed that second pit stop, which put me in a great position,” said Peterson. “I was kind of out there in no man’s land with a little bit of traffic and no draft. I came around to the finish and thought I had put myself in the perfect position, and at the last second, I could feel Brandon there and tried to push up on him. It was a fun race and a good confidence builder.” Paasch and Morais used one another to begin a push towards the front, slowly closing in on the rear wheel of Peterson with just three laps to go. With the race to the checkered flag on, it was Paasch who proved to have a brilliant strategy holding back throughout the race and using a slingshot move down the final straight to take the victory by just 0.007 seconds over Peterson. Morais was just behind the lead duo to complete the podium in third, 0.057 seconds behind the winner.GagnePeterson came up just 0.007 seconds short to finish runner-up. | Photo: Brian J. Nelson The victory marks the first time that Pirelli has won the Daytona 200 three consecutive times. Kyle Wyman won in 2019 and Paasch in 2021 and 2022. No race was held in 2021. “I wanted to break away so bad, but it just seemed impossible,” said Morais. “That was a fun race. Probably the most fun I have ever had in a race. Every lap someone was there. I thought Cam should have had that race, but we put our heads down and managed to close that gap and it was a battle to the finish.”MoraisMorais put in an impressive performance for the final step of the podium in third. | Photo: Brian J. Nelson Paasch’s race-winning Triumph set the fastest lap of the race with a 1:49.959 and was equipped with a 120/70R17 DIABLO Superbike SC2 front and 190/60R17 Daytona rear tire. “What an incredible way to cap off the weekend here at Daytona,” said Oscar Solis, senior racing manager, Pirelli. “To be able to win this iconic event for the third consecutive time is special and to do it by sweeping the podium just makes it that much sweeter! It was a tight race to the finish and having so many Pirelli riders battling for the win just shows how capable the DIABLO™ Superbike range is. Congratulations to Brandon on the win and Cam and Sheridan on their podiums!” In addition to capturing the top three spots, Pirelli showed its domination with six riders in the top eight positions, including TOBC Racings Danny Eslick sixth, TSE Racing’s Harry Truelove seventh, and Vision Wheel / Discount Tire / KWS Motorsports rider Geoff May eighth. With MotoAmerica and Daytona allowing riders to choose the tire brand of their choice, more than half of the grid elected to run Pirelli. 2022 Daytona 200 Race Results (Pirelli riders in bold): Brandon PaaschCam PetersonSheridan MoraisJosh HayesRichie EscalanteDanny EslickHarry TrueloveGeoff May For more information about the complete line of Pirelli motorcycle tires, please visit Pirelli.com PrevPrevious2021 Schedule NextStefano Mesa and Andrew Lee Double Down to Set New Motorcycle Track Records with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike SlicksNext

Stefano Mesa Takes his Second Track Record of the 2020 Season

Stefano Mesa Takes his Second Track Record of the 2020 Season ROME, Ga. (September 18, 2020) – For the second time this season, Stefano Mesa captured a new motorcycle track record using Pirelli’s new, larger World Superbike derived sizing in the DIABLO™ Superbike range. Mesa’s impressive riding set the track record at NCBike in Garysburg, North Carolina, during a round of the Championship Cup Series (CCS), which served as the racetrack’s first-ever race, and marked the sixth absolute motorcycle track record bounty of 2020 for Pirelli. Just two weeks ago Mesa raced to his first track record of the season aboard his Kawasaki NINJA ZX-10R at Nelson Ledges Road Course as he had nothing but praise for his Pirelli DIABLO™ Superbike tires. The lap record of 1:21.899 was set by Mesa during the Unlimited Superbike race that saw his ZX-10R motorcycle equipped with Pirelli’s DIABLO™ Superbike 125/70-17 SC2 front and 200/65-17 SCX rear slicks. “I was excited to come race here (NCBike) because it’s not too far from my house, so technically my home track,” Mesa said. The team did good work and Metric Devil Moto (Pirelli Trackside vendor) came into the weekend looking to enjoy and go fast. We ended up having a bit of competition, so it made things more interesting. We ended up with all of the wins in my classes and we broke the track record two times. The first was in the GTO race at a 1:22.6. The second was in the final race where my Pirelli Moto crew said ‘you better go faster now’ so I got to work and it paid off! We got it down to a 1:21.899.” “I had a feeling Stefano would end the weekend with the fastest time,” said Oscar Solis, road racing manager at Pirelli. “The SCX rear tire has only been used for two racing weekends here in the United States and it has managed to capture three overall track records. So far, the tire has been extremely well received, and yes, it’s available through any authorized Pirelli trackside vendor.” Pirelli continues to offer a tire credit prize for setting a new motorcycle track record and four different riders have managed to capture a track record so far this season.
